"Discovery Works!"

The Goal of HCI's vocational services program, entitled "Discovery Works," is to assist people with disabilites to obtain and maintain employment, while increasing their independence and personal development

"Discovery Works" empowers people with disabilities to prepare, find and maintain employment. Services are customized to individual strengths, abilites, needs and preferences.

Discovery Works Vocation Program is offered at HCI assists individuals in developing pre-employment and employment retention skills. The program provides up to twelve weeks of training in such areas as :

 

  • Job Readiness Skills Training which includes instruction in self-esteeem, decision makeing, goal setting, personal skills for success, job search techniques, employment applications completion, resume development and interviewing skills, training.
  • Basic Skills Remeditation to increase functional math and reading skills
  • Speciafic Skills Training offered in the area of the indvidual's intrests. Our Program includes a wide rang of training customized to the local employment market
  • Job Club Meeting which provide peer support to participants seeking employment.
  • Assessments are person-centered reviews of a person's intrests, learning style, strenghts, abilities and persnal goals to establish stepping stones or a guide to career development.
HCI provides quality job development, placement and retention services for indviduals with disabilies. HCI partners with the Maryland's Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS), Delaware's Division of Rehabilitation Services (DVR) and local school districts to ensure successful transitioning of youth with disabililities into adulthood and achieving advanced education or competitive employment.
